DYNAMICS OF INDUSTRIAL PRODUCTION FOR THE 1ST QUARTER OF 2022
Metallurgical production in March 2022 was up 2.1% from the same period in 2021 and 9.7% from February 2022. Growth for the first quarter of 2022 was 3.2% over the same period in 2021.

In March 2022, smelting volumes were:
- mirror and pig iron in ingots, ingots and other primary forms - 4.6 million tons, which corresponds to the volume of March 2021 and is 9.7% more than in February 2022. For the first quarter of 2022, 13.5 million tons were produced, an increase of 2.2% over January-March 2021
- 5.18 million tons of unalloyed steel in ingots or other primary forms and semifinished unalloyed steel products, 4.1% less than in March 2021, but 9.6% more than in February 2022. For the first quarter of 2022, 14.7 million tons were produced, down 5.2% from January-March 2021
- 1.37 million tons of alloyed steel in ingots and other primary forms, as well as semi-finished alloyed steel products (2.4% more than in March 2021 and 2.3% more than in February 2022).

Primary aluminum production increased 1.8% and 8.0%, respectively, compared to March 2021 and February 2022. Primary aluminum output in Q1 2022 increased by 0.4% compared to January-March 2021.
Production of hot-rolled steel plates without additional processing was 1.57 million tons, down 8.7% from March 2021, but up 6.1% from February 2022. Overall, Q1 2022 production of hot-rolled steel plates decreased by 9.8% compared to January-March 2021.
Production of steel long products and hot-rolled rods increased by 5.0% and 2.7%, respectively, to 1.48 million tonnes compared to March 2021 and February 2022. Production volume growth in Q1 was 2.6%.
Steel hollow seamless pipes and sections and their fittings produced 562,35 thousand tons in March, 14.9% more than in March 2021 and 15.4% more than in February 2022. In the first quarter steel hollow seamless pipes and profiles and their fittings were produced by 11.2% more than in January-March 2021.
The production of welded steel round pipes with an outer diameter of over 406.4 mm amounted to 344.33 thousand tons, having increased by 1.56 times as compared with March 2021, and decreased by 14.8% as compared with February 2022. In Q1 1.05 million tons of such pipes were produced, which is 82.8% more than in January-March 2021.
The output of welded steel pipes with the outer diameter not exceeding 406.4 mm amounted to 196.32 thousand tons in March 2022, having increased by 0.7% as compared to March 2021 and decreased by 1.7% as compared to February 2022. For the first quarter of 2022, their production increased by 8.0% compared to January-March 2021, amounting to 591.7 thousand tons.
Production of uncoated cold-rolled steel sheets less than 600 mm wide was 42,44 thousand tons in March 2022, a decrease of 0.6% compared to March 2021 and 1.3% compared to February 2022. Production for the first quarter of 2022 was up 18.3% at 127,000 tons.
Cold drawn unalloyed steel wire produced 158,87 thousand tons, up 9.0% and 9.3% from March 2021 and February 2022, respectively. Cold-drawn unalloyed steel wire production growth in Q1 2022 was 6.1% as compared to January-March 2021.
Constructed ferrous metal structures and parts produced 551,73 thousand tons, 10.1% more than in March 2021 and 16.8% more than in February 2022. During the first quarter of 2022, 1.52 million tons were produced, an increase of 21.2% over January-March 2021.
10.89 thousand tons of aluminum structures and parts (6.6% more than in March 2021 and 22.7% more than in February 2022). The growth of production of aluminum structures and parts for the first quarter was 10.2% compared to the same period of 2021.
89% of mining and manufacturing executives are confident that production capacity will meet demand for their products, with 5% and 9% of respondents, respectively, indicating excess capacity.
Among the factors limiting production growth, according to managers, in mining and manufacturing are the uncertainty of the economic situation, insufficient demand for the enterprises' products on the domestic market, and the high level of taxation.
